Chapter 11 Scriptures part 1
Luke 23:2-3, 20-25
Then they started to accuse him, saying: "This man we found subverting our nation and forbidding the paying of taxes to Caesar and saying he himself is Christ a king." So Pilate asked him the question: "Are you the king of the Jews?" In answer to him he said: "You yourself are saying it."
20 Again Pilate called out to them, because he wanted to release Jesus. Then they began to yell, saying: "Impale! Impale him!" The third time he said to them: "Why, what bad thing did this man do? I found nothing deserving of death in him; I will therefore chastise and release him." At this they began to be urgent, with loud voices, demanding that he be impaled; and their voices began to win out. So Pilate gave sentence for their demand to be met: he released the man [Barabbas] that had been thrown into prison for sedition and murder and whom they were demanding, but he surrendered Jesus to their will.
Luke 21:12-15
But before all these things people will lay their hands upon you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, you being haled before kings and governors for the sake of my name. It will turn out to you for a witness. Therefore settle it in your hearts not to rehearse beforehand how to make your defense, for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your opposers together will not be able to resist or dispute. Moreover, you will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death; and you will be objects of hatred by all people because of my name. And yet not a hair of your heads will by any means perish. By endurance on your part you will acquire your souls.
Matt 10:32-39
Everyone that confesses union with me before men, I will also confess union with him before my Father who is in the heavens; but whoever disowns me before men, I will also disown him before my Father who is in the heavens. Do not think I came to put peace upon the earth; I came to put, not peace, but a sword. For I came to cause division, with a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a young wife against her mother-in-law. Indeed, a man's enemies will be persons of his own household. He that has greater affection for father or mother than for me is not worthy of me; and he that has greater affection for son or daughter than for me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not accept his execution post and follow after me is not worthy of me. He that finds his soul will lose it, and he that loses his soul for my sake will find it.
Mark 8:38
For whoever becomes ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of man will also be ashamed of him when he arrives in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
John 15:19-21
If you were part of the world, the world would be fond of what is its own. Now because you are no part of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, on this account the world hates you. Bear in mind the word I said to you, a slave is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will persecute you also; if they have observed my word, they will observe yours also. But they will do all these things against you on account of my name, because they do not know him that sent me.
1 Tim 1:12, 13
I am grateful to Christ Jesus our Lord, who imparted power to me, because he considered me faithful by assigning me to a ministry, although formerly I was a blasphemer and a persecutor and an insolent man. Nevertheless, I was shown mercy, because I was ignorant and acted with a lack of faith.
Matt 22:36-40
"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" He said to him: "‘You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. The second, like it, is this, ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments the whole Law hangs, and the Prophets."
1 John 5:3
For this is what the love of God means, that we observe his commandments; and yet his commandments are not burdensome.
1 John 2:3-5
By this we have the knowledge that we have come to know him, namely, if we continue observing his commandments. He that says: "I have come to know him," and yet is not observing his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever does observe his word, truly in him the love of God has been made complete. By this we know that we are in union with him.
Daniel 3:17-18
If it is to be, our God whom we are serving is able to rescue us. Out of the burning fiery furnace and out of your hand, O king, he will rescue us. But if not, let it become known to you, O king, that your gods are not the ones we are serving, and the image of gold that you have set up we will not worship.
Daniel 3:24-25
At that time Nebuchadnezzar the king himself became frightened [and said] to his high royal officials: "Was it not three able-bodied men that we threw bound into the midst of the fire?" They answered: "Yes, O king." [Then he said]: "Look! I am beholding four able-bodied men walking about free in the midst of the fire, and there is no hurt to them, and the appearance of the fourth one is resembling a son of the gods!"
Daniel 3:28 Nebuchadnezzar said: "Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who sent his angel and rescued his servants that trusted in him and that changed the very word of the king and gave over their bodies, because they would not serve and would not worship any god at all except their own God!"
1 Pet 2:13-17
For the Lord's sake subject yourselves to every human creation: whether to a king as being superior or to governors as being sent by him to inflict punishment on evildoers but to praise doers of good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may muzzle the ignorant talk of the unreasonable men. Be as free people, and yet holding your freedom, not as a blind for badness, but as slaves of God. Honor men of all sorts, have love for the whole association of brothers, be in fear of God, have honor for the king.
2 Cor 1:8-10
For we do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, about the tribulation that happened to us in the district of Asia, that we were under extreme pressure beyond our strength, so that we were very uncertain even of our lives. In fact, we felt within ourselves that we had received the sentence of death. This was that we might have our trust, not in ourselves, but in the God who raises up the dead. From such a great thing as death he did rescue us and will rescue us; and our hope is in him that he will also rescue us further.
Psalm 9:18-20
For not always will the poor one be forgotten,
Nor will the hope of the meek ones ever perish.
Do arise, O Jehovah! Let not mortal man prove superior in strength.
Let the nations be judged before your face.
Do put fear into them, O Jehovah,
That the nations may know that they are but mortal men.
Psalm 145:18-20
Jehovah is near to all those calling upon him,
To all those who call upon him in trueness.
The desire of those fearing him he will perform,
And their cry for help he will hear, and he will save them.
Jehovah is guarding all those loving him,
But all the wicked ones he will annihilate.
Luke 12:4
Moreover, I say to you, my friends, Do not fear those who kill the body and after this are not able to do anything more.
Romans 8:35-39
Who will separate us from the love of the Christ? Will tribulation or distress or persecution or hunger or nakedness or danger or sword? Just as it is written: "For your sake we are being put to death all day long, we have been accounted as sheep for slaughtering." To the contrary, in all these things we are coming off completely victorious through him that loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life nor angels nor governments nor things now here nor things to come nor powers nor height nor depth nor any other creation will be able to separate us from God's love that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 13:1, 2, 7
Let every soul be in subjection to the superior authorities, for there is no authority except by God; the existing authorities stand placed in their relative positions by God. Therefore, he who opposes the authority has taken a stand against the arrangement of God; those who have taken a stand against it will receive judgment to themselves.
7 Render to all their dues, to him who asks for the tax, the tax; to him who asks for the tribute, the tribute; to him who asks for fear, such fear; to him who asks for honor, such honor.
[Of course, we cannot give worship to men, even if that is demanded; if the "fear" or "honor" requested clearly rises to that level, we have to decline, regardless of the consequences.]
2 Cor 2:11
. . . that we may not be overreached by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his designs.
2 Cor 11:14
. . . And no wonder, for Satan himself keeps transforming himself into an angel of light.
